To me it’s that True hatchbacks are quarrels at the rear, the sacrifice style a bit for extra cargo room.

Where as a liftback has a sharp rack on the back window, even typically looking more like a fastback Mustang than a old Civic. Think of all the 80s lift back sports cars, no one would call them hatchbacks.

To me tht new Civic looks more like the Celica than the Versa Note.

OK.  To me those are all just hatchbacks, including all those 80's sports cars.  But nonetheless, I’m pickin’ up what you’re puttin’ down.  By those standards, I agree that the Civic is a liftback.
